Many thanks from the whole club to all those who competed, marshalled and organised today’s Meltham 10k. We had another fabulous turnout and suitably pleasant conditions for a late-January fixture.

Winter Handicap

A hardy frost was the main accompaniment to the 2012 Winter Handicap. The solid terrain helped John Hobbs to beat the handicapper and claim the winner’s shield. Emma Steinne was a close second with Richard Beaumont completing the podium. The event will be most noted for the photo finish between the club’s most senior and most junior members – Jeff Taylor and Tom Whitworth. Separated by 6 decades in age, but the timekeepers registered just a second between them at the finish, with Tom declared the first over the line.

Winter Orienteering with EPOC

NEW for the winter; 

Indoor and outdoor training for orienteering and adventure racing based
in and around Newsome High School and Sports College Gym.

Mondays 6-7pm

Sessions include; 

Running skills and drills, circuit training, bleep tests, strength and
conditioning, hashing, hill reps, navigation techniques and informal
competitions

All welcome! No experience necessary. The whole family can join in. £3
family £2 individual.

Cinnamon Lodge Chase 2011 Results/Photos etc

Many thanks to all those who competed at another exceptionally well attended event on Weds 17th August. Nearly 100 completed the course on another fine summer’s evening. Full results are now available via the Cinnamon Lodge Chase page. From this page there are also link to Flaming Photography’s pictures of the race and their You Tube video of the event.

Thanks also to Mike Harrison for organising the event and we hope you all enjoyed the new course. Our next event will be held on the 6th November, the Cop Hill Fell Race (full details to be published soon), and we hope to see you all back at the end of the year!

Cinnamon Chase – 17th August 2011

Entries are £5 for attached runners, £7 for unattached. This year the race will be run over a NEW COURSE, taking in excellent views of Meltham, South Crosland and the surrounding area.

Entries will be available on the day, so feel free to join us on Wednesday 17th August 2011 for another fabulous event. We look forward to seeing you!

Orienteering Training – Greenhead Park

If anyone is interested in learning about orienteering (running with a map), I have been passed on details of our local club’s (East Pennine Orienteering Club) current training night. Details are as follows:

Welcome everyone to our new Orienteering Training and Coaching sessions

When: Monday evenings 6:30-8pm.

Where: Greenhead Park, Huddersfield. HD1 4DT
Meet at the new Community Room which is next to the cafe. There are (clean!) toilets adjacent.

What: We will spend part of the session outdoors doing activities related to orienteering. These will include fun exercises for both strength, speed and cario-vascular training, and also for agility and flexibility, all very useful for orienteering!
We will also do a wide variety of thinking activities designed to improve orienteering skills from any level (the design is my challenge!)

Importantly: the sessions are a chance to meet fellow orienteers in a warm, dry, sociable environment and find out more about the sport and competitions.

Tea/coffee/soft drinks and biscuits will be a permanent feature.

No experience necessary
Suitable for all fitness levels, ages and abilities.
Everyone welcome including families and individuals
£1 juniors (under 18) £2 adults £3 families

Joe Percy 10k 2011

The date of the Joe Percy 10k has now been announced. It will take place on Wed 22nd June and will again be based at Thurstonland Cricket Club. If you would like to enter please let Andy Whitworth or Matt Dillingham know to sign you up. The race will probably start at 7.30pm.
